Of all the criminal professions out there, thievery is arguably the least harmful as you'd think the intent is to steal something of monetary value from someone who lives in excess which is what A Thief's Journey might be trying to show. You are playing the role of a career thief who has decided to travel the world to steal priceless treasures for his collection. He's alone in his endeavors and must learn to use his stealth to get through each area undetected and overcome any security measures in place. If done right, it'll be like he was never there.
About A Thief's Journey
Many stealth games have you playing the role of some kind of thief since the best ones can get in and out without ever being noticed. This game is more about how a thief navigates an area to reach their prize. You want to spend the least amount of time in any given heist since the longer you stay, the more likely you are to get caught or make a mistake. You need to plot out direct paths around each area to move quickly and smoothly. Getting the prize is worth nothing if you tore up the place to reach it.
How to Play
A Thief's Journey is a 2D stealth game about a thief stealing well-known artifacts and other relics using the mouse. To move the thief, move the cursor to the tile you want him to move to and then click the Left Mouse Button. The goal is to steal the treasure in each area which will sit highlighted on a specific tile. There will be a timer in the corner of the level area ticking down. If it runs out, you get caught, or set off any alarms on your way over to it, you'll fail and will need to retry the heist.
This is both a stealth and puzzle game where the puzzle is how you navigate the room. Each room will only have a certain amount of tiles that the thief can stand on. As long as they're open, the thief can move freely between them. When obstacles and security measures are introduced the thief needs to be able to move around them while using the tiles as safe spaces. You can only stand on each tile once but can return to the tile you last stood on. Once the thief gets his hands on the treasure, he'll bag it up and the level will be completed. Certain tiles will be linked to obstacles which you'll need to stand on to remove them.
Tips and Tricks
You're being tasked to get around a contained area with a limited amount of space to stand and move between. There's some time to scan the area so that you can determine the most direct route to the treasure. Don't get too comfortable though as the game will start setting up hazards to play that against you.
