Monopoly
Some games have been around longer than we know and yet never go out of style which is why there are online versions of games like Monopoly. Created as a way to educate about economics, the game has come to be known as possibly the most popular board game of all time. You and other players take on the role of landlords who are all trying to gain a stake in the real estate and services of a fictional city. It's a game about making deals and trying to gain the most power and profit from what's available and driving your competitors out of business.
About Monopoly
The game may seem intimidating being about a complex concept, but it's easy to pick up and enjoyable to play with others. This is a game that can create friendships as well as rivalries depending on how you play. It pushes you to think in ways that you may not normally think and consider actions you may not usually consider. It's an exercise in just how tough and competitive the business world can be whether you're on your own or part of a much larger group. There's a reason why having a monopoly in real life is not permitted.
How to Play
Monopoly is a 3D board game about trying to control the most property that you can play with the mouse. Your actions as a player will be shown at the bottom of the screen which you can interact with and select using the cursor and Left Mouse Button. You can play with up to four players locally on the same computer. The goal of the game is to control the most property and drive other players to bankruptcy.
On a player's turn, they get to roll a pair of dice. Based on the results, they must move their game piece along the spaces on the board. Depending on what they land on, they can take different actions. If it's a property space that is unowned, they can attempt to purchase it. If they already own it, they can try to build houses or hotels on it to increase its value. If it's owned by another player, they will need to pay the owner a fee to stay on it.
If the player lands on a Chance or Community Chest space, they draw a card from the associated pile and act upon the results. The Free Parking space nets the player all the money gathered in the center of the board due to various circumstances. If they end up in Jail due to landing on the Go To Jail space or other events, they can only leave if they roll doubles on the dice, pay a $50 fine before rolling after arriving, wait three turns then pay the fine, or use a Get Out Of Jail Free card. Every time a player passes the go space (barring certain instructions) they will receive $200.
Players can also interact with each other on their turns. They can attempt to trade or purchase properties and cards from each other provided that both parties agree on an exchange. Having a Monopoly (all properties of the same type) will give all the associated properties an increased value.
Tips and Tricks
This is a game where strategy can change based on chance. Being aggressive and buying as much as you can early on can be beneficial to gaining ground, but leaves you heavily dependent on visitors. Playing the long game of surveying the landscape and saving can work well in the long run, but may leave you at a disadvantage when playing against aggressive players.
