Takeover
Looking back on history, a lot of it was spent fighting with groups of humans trying to take things from other groups of humans as can be seen in Takeover. You've entered into another medieval fantasy world where things are brutal and if you're not on top then you're on the bottom. Luckily, you've got a huge force of eager workers and hungry fighters who are supporting your dream for expansion. All that stands in your way are the occupying forces of undead, monsters, and other humans who want to take over things just as much as you do, so arm up.
About Takeover
The medieval fantasy genre likes to focus a lot on the idea of strategy and expansion but with some additional flair thrown in to change up your decisions. This game goes a traditional route with the theming and a stylized presentation. It's like a real-time strategy affair but shrunk down to be more manageable so that you don't have to be bogged down with too many decisions. Everything has a preset and you just need to decide what needs to be placed where and then manage as best as you can. Enemies will always be plotting their next move so you should too.
How to Play
Takeover is a 2D medieval fantasy strategy game about leading your clan to victory using the mouse. The cursor can navigate across the screen to reach the gameplay UI and the Left Mouse Button is pressed to select the different icons. When it comes to moving units, you need to click and hold on to their icon and then drag to where you want them to go. The goal of each level is to defeat the opposing forces and claim their territories with higher scores being rewarded for how quickly and efficiently you do so.
When the campaign begins, you'll be shown a picture of a world map. The available missions will be indicated by your clan's castle. Click on them to begin the mission and you'll be shown an area of land. Your clan will be set up in a designated area with your castle acting as your base. There will be empty spaces nearby where you can build Farms (increase squad numbers), Mines (increase gold production), and Obelisks (increase mana production). You'll need increased squad numbers so that your castle can train warriors to attack and defend, while gold is used for various costs, and mana is used for magical abilities like healing your units. The castle can be upgraded to improve the quality of your warriors. Periodically, enemy squads will advance and attempt to destroy your castle and if that happens, it's game over.
To complete the level, you need to defeat the opposing forces and take over their lands. To do this, you need to train warrior squads and then direct them to the enemy. When your warriors encounter an enemy target, they will attack them automatically until either they or the enemy is defeated. Enemy structures also need to be attacked until they are destroyed. When this happens, your warrior squads can move in to rebuild and recover. Once it's rebuilt under your banner, you'll gain additional resources as well as access to the surrounding lands. For additional treasure, you can attack ogres to gain access to their treasure chests.
As you complete missions, you'll earn Edicts. These are passive bonuses that you can enact to give your clan some kind of benefit. This could be improving the strength of your warriors to increasing your overall gold production.
Tips and Tricks
Edicts are the greatest edge that you have in this game which means that you need to spend any you get wisely. Aim to increase your supply numbers as soon as possible so that you can have multiple squads for defense and attack. Your magical avatar power should be saved as a last resort.
